Sweep Us Away

Written by Daniel Damian Pak (ASCAP)

we are the leaves
that fall from the trees
so peacefully
we spent a long time by this sea
never competing with each other
and then one day a great white wave crashed down
to sweep us away
and from that day our lives would never be the same

they came with their ships
filled with greed and politics
they brought their god along to save the savages
they shared their disease and all the rum one could drink
and cocked their fancy guns to colonize the skeptics

to sweep us away
still trying to sweep us away
no you can’t sweep us away

we are the leaves
that fell from the trees
so peacefully
we’re on our way back to the sea
to reunite with everyone
we’ll cleanse ourselves
replenish our well
avoiding temptations
of our self-built hell
until the day the oppressors themselves
come to us for help

they came with their ships
filled with greed and politics
they brought their god along to save the savages
they shared their disease and all the rum one could drink
and cocked their fancy guns to colonize the skeptics

to sweep us away
still trying to sweep us away
no you can’t sweep us away
