Back in August 2010 we opened for Third World, the “Reggae Ambassadors” famous for their international hits “96 Degrees in the Shade,” “Now That We Found Love,” and the group’s anthemic blockbuster “Try Jah Love,” written for the band by none other than Stevie Wonder.
The show at Nectar Lounge was packed with reggae lovers young and old, from college students rocking Bob Marley and Che Guevara tees under their Husky hoodies to salt-and-peppery dreadlocked aunties in their colorful flowing dresses. We even met a man in a business suit from Tanzania in the bathroom who said the last time he was in Dar es Salaam he saw a Kore Ionz sticker on the bumper of a car. For real?!
To top off the night, we got to kick it with Kid Hops, host of Positive Vibrations and Expansions on KEXP 90.3 FM, who was also on the bill as the night’s DJ. We rapped about shopping organic at PCC to ordering take-out at Flying Squirrel Pizza Company and reminisced about the first time we met in Ballard at the Seattle Weekly Music Awards back in 2006. After the show, Hops said we should come in and do an in-studio with him on the radio. And so, to start off this New Year with a bang, we hit you with music!
Kore Ionz perform live in-studio at KEXP 90.3 FM on the Positive Vibrations show with Kid Hops on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 10:30am PST. Tune in live on the radio in Seattle or online, streaming worldwide at kexp.org.
